Leicester College is located in one of the most diverse cities in the UK shown by largest Diwali celebrations outside of India, and one of the biggest Caribbean Carnivals in the UK, it is no wonder that the University welcomes over 4,000 international students from over 150 countries.
The standards of teaching at the university are extremely high. It received the highest form of national recognition for a UK institution, the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, on three occasions. With its rich history of innovation coupled with its high-quality education, the institute has had many successful graduates who have changed the world such as Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, who invented DNA Fingerprinting in 1984.

The institute has a wide range of sports facilities with two sports centers. They each a variety of gym equipment, swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms, and there are a range of membership packages to suit each student’s budget. Open throughout the day with changing offerings for breakfast and lunch, Food Incorporated is the on-site canteen and the go-to place for affordable meals and snacks. It includes a vegetarian option and a fresh salad bar. Furthermore, it understands the requirements of its international students and thus has a multi-faith chaplaincy and non-denominational prayer rooms are provided at each site.
The college’s Careers Advisers help with all areas of job search for part-time work, including help with CVs, application forms and interview techniques. To aid in this process part-time jobs are advertised at all campuses. Moreover, weekly job clubs are held in a confidential environment, where learners have access to resources and support from qualified careers staff. All these measures work together so that students are easily able to identify and work part-time.
A support team is also present that assists students with disabilities and learning difficulties. There are a wide range of assistance given to each student such as a worker for personal care, specialist equipment, note-taking or communication support, help with moving around college and even help with accessing the curriculum or information.
Career Advice is available on all main campuses five days a week and through outstations. The careers advisers are available on result days, enrolment events, open days, and at drop-ins as well. These advisers provide help including impartial, confidential advice and help with researching careers information, job seeking, updating your CV, applying to university, and comparability of overseas qualifications. They work with the careers team that have a series of job search guides for learners and staff, which contain information to help find work.
Each campus also has a career library within the main library, thus providing access to the standard reference books and resources directly related to the courses studied at each campus. A careers information database is also available on all student computers. Work clubs are also set up to support students in finding the right job. These clubs offer guidance with a student’s CV, interview skills, application forms, careers advice, volunteering opportunities and job search. In addition to the work club, there is a specific graduate work club, which supports graduates starting out on their career.
